Bonsai Trees is a high energy rock band co-founded by Connecticut natives James MacPherson and Nick Sokol in 2011.  Bonsai Trees has been nominated for 2 New England Music Awards this year:  Best Rock Act and Best Band in Connecticut!

Bonsai Trees started out as a pop rock duo co-founded by James MacPherson and Nick Sokol in 2011.   The two met in their hometown high school in South Windsor, Connecticut and have been creating music together non-stop ever since.

Bonsai Trees  just released Learn to Grow in May 2019.  The band previously released a full-length LP “Not Bitter” in October 2017, the single “Lift Off” in September 2017, the single “You Owe Me” in April 2017, the single “CALM” in October 2016, an EP “Live Free and Die“ in 2015, the single “Hurricane Song” in 2015, and a critically acclaimed debut LP “Minimalist“ in 2013.   Most of their music can be heard, downloaded and purchased on all digital media platforms, and physical CDs, T-shirts and other merch can be purchased at gigs or on their website BonsaiTreesBand.com (while supplies last).

The Lion and The Badger
 teamed up with the former Bonsai Trees guitarist Marshall Biever to form an acoustic duo called The Lion & The BadgerThey released a 6-song debut EP “Home” in December 2017 and have recently recorded new music soon to be released.

James is also an accomplished solo performer and award winning singer/songwriter.  *At only 19 years old, James was honored to receive the 2016 New England RADAR Award for best singer/songwriter under 21 (sponsored by Pavoh.org).  Click to read the full Hartford Courant article.

Singer/songwriter judge Sarah Barrios, also a Connecticut musician and past RADAR award winner, said she was “looking for a songwriter that not only brings presence, rawness and soul to their music, but also has interesting lyrics and interesting chord progressions — that’s a really important package. I thought James did a fantastic job encompassing all of that.”
